London | Porthcurno, UK September 2025: VOIS (Vodafone Intelligent Solutions), the strategic shared operations arm of Vodafone Group Plc, today announced a sponsorship with PK Porthcurno - Museum of Global Communications, forging a powerful connection between the heritage of telecommunications and the future of digital innovation.
The agreement positions VOIS as the primary sponsor of the newly launched PK Network - a global initiative designed to unite industry partners in support of the museum’s mission to preserve and promote the story of connectivity. Through this initiative, VOIS and PK Porthcurno aim to build a vibrant, international community committed to heritage, education, and innovation.
Celebrating the Past, Inspiring the Future
PK Porthcurno – Museum of Global Communications, located at the historic landing site of some of the world’s first subsea telegraph cables, is dedicated to helping people understand the technology that shapes their lives. Its collections highlight both the technical evolution of global communications and the human stories behind them.
Through this sponsorship, VOIS will support a range of educational and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) programmes, with a particular focus on inspiring young people and promoting diversity in the technology sector.
A Legacy of Collaboration: The Consortia Model
Collaboration has always been at the heart of driving progress in the telecommunications industry. Cable systems, especially subsea, have long relied on consortia: groups of partners working together to achieve what they could not do alone. Vodafone Group Plc itself began as a consortium, born from a partnership between Racal Electronics and Millicom in the early 1980s. By 1985, Racal-Millicom had become Vodafone, launching the UK’s first mobile telecommunications network provider.
In 2024, VOIS announced its strategic partnership with Accenture and its new vision: delivering intelligent solutions to the telecommunications sector through a pioneering Open Consortia Model (OCM). This collaborative model is built on shared success, uniting Vodafone, Accenture, and a network of ambitious, open-minded partners to co-create innovative solutions - moving beyond traditional siloed service models to a transparent, commercially agile ecosystem.
The sponsorship with PK Porthcurno symbolises and reinforces the power of the consortia model in action – bringing people and organisations together to create enduring connections to help create the future of our industry, whilst respecting its past.
A Global Launch for a Global Workforce
The sponsorship will be formally launched with a virtual signing event, inviting VOIS teams worldwide to join in. Together, VOIS and the Porthcurno Museum are committed to connection, communication, and community - across borders, generations, and technologies - as they help shape the next era of connectivity.
Julia Twomlow, CEO & Creative Director of the museum, explained the significance of the sponsorship, stating: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with VOIS as the primary partner on the launch of the PK Network. This is an exciting new chapter for PK Porthcurno – Museum of Global Communications, an entirely independent museum and charity. With our world-class collections and historic site, we tell the wider communications story, from the earliest telegraphic connections in the 1800s through to the present day. Alongside the science and technology of communications, we also celebrate the amazing people and communities who made it happen.”
She continues: “As an educational charity, we rely on funding and donations to keep our doors open to the public. The PK Network is a fabulous initiative headed up by VOIS, bringing together companies and individuals in the communications sector to support our work, helping us to protect this illustrious heritage for future generations and share the story as widely as possible of how we connected the world.”
Gary Adey, CEO of VOIS, added: “Our sponsorship with PK Porthcurno - Museum of Global Communications is more than a celebration of our industry’s past – it’s a powerful reminder of the invisible infrastructure that enables everything we do today, and plan to do in the future. At VOIS, we’re proud to honour that legacy while continuing to drive innovation and purpose across our global community as we apply a consortia approach to reinvent Shared Operations for Telco.”
A Shared Commitment to Sustainability
Environmental responsibility is a shared value at the heart of this sponsorship. The museum’s “Planet PK” programme explores the intersection of digital connectivity and environmental responsibility - an ethos that aligns closely with Vodafone’s ESG commitments. Together, VOIS and the museum will champion sustainable innovation and responsible storytelling.
