Promoting circularity

We believe society needs to move to a more efficient, circular economy focused on eliminating waste.

In only 12 years, the amount of e-waste generated per year worldwide has almost doubled to 62 billion kg in 2022–and is projected to increase further to 82 billion by 2030.

The Telecommunications industry operations generate e-waste from used electronic network equipment (such as radio antennae or decommissioned data servers) and from the devices sold to customers when they are no longer used.

Managing waste across our business and network

We are committed to using our logistics networks and processes to bring decommissioned network equipment back to places where it can be managed responsibly for reuse, re-sale or recycling.

We will collaborate with suppliers and others in our industry to maximise the opportunity for used network equipment to be reused or resold through initiatives like our Asset Marketplace.

Helping our customers bring back used devices

We are committed to helping more of our customers bring their used electronic devices back to us, by providing channels and attractive propositions for product take-back, and raising awareness to encourage greater participation.

We will develop business models that give more used devices a chance at a second life through re-use, repair, refurbishment and re-sale.

We will work with others across our value chain and wider ecosystem to build a more circular economy, in which more of the metals and materials in the products we sell can be recovered to help reduce the need for raw material extraction.
