Vodafone’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance has once again been highly rated by EcoVadis, a leading independent assessor of corporate sustainability performance.
Vodafone achieved an overall score of 83/100 - beating its 2023 rating by three points – in EcoVadis’ 2024 reports, placing it in the top 1% of companies assessed. EcoVadis’ database includes more than 130,000 companies across 180 countries and 220 industries.
The EcoVadis assessment incorporates a review of four key themes: environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement, and reviews organisations’ policies, endorsements, measures, certifications and reporting in each area.
Vodafone achieved a higher score this year due to advancements in areas including its science-based targets to tackle carbon emissions, its focus on securing renewable energy from multiple sources, and its Climate Transition Plan launched in May 2024.
Vodafone’s efforts in sustainable procurement – from weighting for environmental factors when considering potential suppliers, to requiring them to have their own carbon reduction targets and reporting, also factored into the EcoVadis assessment.
Vodafone aims to reach net zero operations in Europe by 2028, in Africa by 2035, and across its full value chain by 2040.
