Vodacom is named Global Alliance Member of The Earthshot Prize

Vodacom Group has been named a Global Alliance Member of the Earthshot Prize. It is one of 14 influential global companies and brands that will come together to support and scale the innovative and ground-breaking solutions developed by the 15 soon-to-be-announced Earthshot Prize Finalists.

The Earthshot Prize has been designed to discover and scale the best solutions to repair our planet over the next 10 years. Its Global Alliance is made up of some of the world’s most influential companies, including: Arup, Bloomberg L.P., Deloitte, Herbert Smith Freehills, Hitachi, Ingka Group (IKEA), Microsoft, The Multichoice Group, Natura &Co, Safaricom, Salesforce, Unilever, Vodacom and Walmart.

Global Alliance Members may also support the search for the best environmental innovations by becoming Prize nominators and help to grow the impact of the Prize through strategic advice and amplification of its work. Together, the Global Alliance Members will further the aims of the Prize through their strategic funding, expertise and global reach.

Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot, which united millions of people around the goal of reaching the moon, The Earthshot Prize aims to stimulate collective action while demonstrating there is reason for optimism in humanity’s ability to solve this important problem.

The Prize is based on five Earthshot goals:
  1. Protect and restore nature
  2. Clean our air
  3. Revive our oceans
  4. Build a waste-free world
  5. Fix our climate.

Each year for the next 10 years, five winners will be named - one for each Earthshot goal.

The 15 Earthshot Prize finalists will be selected for their solutions representing a range of initiatives which, if scaled, could transform our ability to tackle the world’s greatest environmental challenges.

The launch comes after two years of work by Prince William and The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to develop a project which will support the global effort to protect and restore the environment.
