- One NZ and Vodafone sign commercial agreement to extend benefits of Network APIs to New Zealand businesses and app developers.
- Supports Vodafone's drive to grow global Network API ecosystem through partnerships.
One New Zealand, a leading telecommunications provider in New Zealand, has signed a commercial agreement with Vodafone for Network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to enable businesses to build smarter, safer digital services. This will extend the reach of Vodafone's Network API portfolio to New Zealand.
Vodafone's suite of Network APIs allows third-party organisations and app developers to securely use advanced mobile network capabilities to protect their customers from online threats like phishing, account takeover and SIM swap fraud. For example, when a customer makes an online payment, the bank can use a secure API to confirm the phone number is still safely linked to their account and hasn't been compromised through a SIM swap.
The first Network APIs to launch are SIM Swap and Number Verification 2. These APIs improve security, help to tackle fraud and deliver smooth customer experiences by providing real-time anti-fraud verification, device status checks, secure authentication, and enhanced digital identity solutions. Collectively, they allow banks and other organisations to verify the customer in real time behind the scenes, rather than relying on less secure methods such as SMS one time passwords (OTPs) and reduce the need for complex passwords.
Johanna Wood, Vodafone's Director of Network APIs, said: "Users' mobile experiences are becoming safer as Network APIs reach more developers. Though our partnership with One NZ, we will extend these resources to the New Zealand market, giving developers what they need to help businesses combat fraud and provide enhanced digital experiences for their customers."
Murray Osborne, General Manager – Infrastructure Partners, One NZ, said: "This agreement helps us to unlock the full value of our network through globally standardised APIs. By working with Vodafone and industry partners, we are enabling New Zealand businesses to access more secure, interoperable network capabilities that enhance digital trust, improve customer experiences, and create new opportunities for innovation and growth."
By simplifying access to advanced network functionalities, the Vodafone – One NZ partnership paves the way for new in app development across sectors including financial services, media, e-commerce and digital platforms. Built on the latest international standards, including the GSMA Open Gateway and open source CAMARA, Vodafone's Network APIs can be easily integrated across all modern networks.
One NZ is leveraging network intelligence as a reliable digital layer to enhance security, the customer experience, and global interoperability. Through the Vodafone commercial agreement, One NZ will deliver a robust, privacy-centric authentication capability that strengthens protection while improving customer satisfaction for its customers.
