Digitalisation and high-speed connectivity are enablers of the clean industrial transition.

Digital connectivity has the potential to accelerate the clean industrial transition. Internet-connected, smart technology can help unlock energy and resource efficiencies at industrial scale, across all sectors of the economy - from transport and logistics, to energy, buildings, agriculture, manufacturing and many more. According to the World Economic Forum, digital solutions are estimated to have the potential to cut global greenhouse gas emissions by up to 20% by 2030. We believe technology is key to the next era of industrial growth - building a healthy and competitive economy that is cleaner, less wasteful, more renewable and more sustainable.

By providing technology and connectivity, Vodafone is helping our business customers reduce their own climate impact and helping society to transition to a more sustainable, cleaner industrial future.

Vodafone Germany uses digital twins to protect trees against extreme heat

Vodafone Germany uses digital twins to protect trees against extreme heat

In the city of Erlangen, Vodafone Germany has worked with the plant cultivation start-up Agvolution and the local Friedrich-Alexander University to develop sensors which can monitor soil humidity and temperature. The data from the sensors allows Agvolution to create ‘digital twins’ of the trees being monitored. The digital twins provide a virtual understanding of how the trees will react based on the moisture levels given by the sensors. From this, the city can determine the priority of care for trees and adjust watering levels accordingly.
