Baroness Martha Lane-Fox Founder and Executive Chair, Doteveryone and Sally Phillips, comic actress and writer, recognisable from her role in Bridget Jones and more recently for her BBC documentary “A World Without Downs” were among some of the speakers involved in the Vodafone Foundation’s “Digitising Purpose” event yesterday.

Digitising Purpose was hosted by the Vodafone Foundation on Monday 2 July at St James's Palace at the request of Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex. Guests included 125 representatives from charities and organisations that TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex chairs.

Digitising Purpose explored the opportunities for digital technology to enhance the reach and impact of the charity sector in an increasingly connected world and drew on expertise within Vodafone and the experience of the Vodafone Foundation through the Connecting for Good strategy which combines Vodafone's charitable giving and technology. Sessions during the day included digital and cyber security, data analytics and communications and digital storytelling,  areas which were selected by the Charities Forum, a group that meets to discuss and address issues facing the third sector that HRH The Countess of Wessex chairs.

Digitising Purpose was designed to provide an insight into the current and predicated impact of digitisation on the charity sector. Presenters include technology industry experts, including representatives from Vodafone. The workshops aimed to equip those charities present with practical ways to implement digital solutions with limited budget and resource. Presentations and outcomes from the day will be made widely available after the event, to increase the impact beyond those organisations that were able to attend.
