"Call divert fraud" is a technique fraudsters use to take over a victim's account.

Fraudsters use social engineering techniques to either convince the user to divert their phone to the fraudster or get users to install malware onto their mobile device. This forces the mobile number to divert incoming calls to a fraudster's number.

Once call divert is enabled, the fraudster might pretend to be the victim and convince the fraud department of a financial institution to let a payment or bank transfer go through.

Service Providers can use the API to obtain information about the current call forwarding status for a user’s mobile phone number (and whether it is potentially under the control of a fraudster).

  • The Mobile Number must be a postpaid Vodafone account.
  • The Mobile Number must not belong to a family account (i.e. accounts with two or more Mobile Numbers), or a business account.
