Tasman Global Access (TGA) is a new fibre optic cable system that spans 2,288 km, linking Raglan, New Zealand to Sydney, Australia.

The TGA cable system has a total design capacity of 20 terabits per second, deploying 100G technology and has been built by a consortium including Vodafone, Spark and Telstra.The cable has been constructed to deliver more international bandwidth and capacity for New Zealand and to strengthen diversity and resiliency within the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.

The cable also serves as an important digital link to fast-growing Asian economic markets by enabling better connectivity to the five major international cable systems currently serving Australia.

High capacity and future-proof

The TGA cable is an important addition to the infrastructure of the region and will support New Zealand’s broadband initiative which aims to connect 75% of the country’s population to broadband service with download speeds of at least 100 Mbps by 2020. It also plays a key role in the continued growth of the digital economy in New Zealand and across Asia Pacific.
