A total of one billion people use the world’s twelve million elevators every day. This makes the elevator both the most widely-used and one of the safest means of transport in the world. However, due to maintenance works, elevators across the globe are out of operation for a total of 190 million hours per year.
This is exactly what MAX from thyssenkrupp is designed to tackle, by providing a preventative maintenance solution for elevator systems. MAX is the first solution of its type in the world based on cloud technology. In order to provide the maximum benefit to thyssenkrupp’s customers the solution required a reliable connectivity service, with the ability to manage devices on a global scale.
Solution
Vodafone SIMs are installed in all thyssenkrupp Elevator’s lifts with MAX technology, enabling machine data captured on-site to be transferred to the company’s Microsoft Azure Cloud. The Vodafone Managed IoT Connectivity Platform provides SIM management, cost control and data access. This provides the interfaces necessary for thyssenkrupp Elevator’s employees to manage the IoT SIMs via their own administration interfaces wherever they are located in the world.
thyssenkrupp Elevator installed over 100,000 IoT SIMs globally in mid-2017. In the future, it is expected that around one million elevators in Europe, Asia, and North and South America will be equipped in the same way.
