SocialDiabetes and Vodafone join forces to promote the digital management of diabetes

The partnership between SocialDiabetes, the reference platform in Spain for people with diabetes, and Vodafone, leading communications operator in Internet of Things (IoT), will promote the digital monitoring of this disease by health professionals and patients

Madrid, November 14, 2017.- Vodafone Spain announced, on the occasion of the celebration of World Diabetes Day tomorrow, its objective of promoting, through Social Diabetes, the mobilization and digitalization of diabetes management, as a necessary and essential innovation for the improvement of the quality of life of the people affected by this chronic disease. 

SocialDiabetes, the startup that has revolutionized the way of managing diabetes, and recently obtained the highest score in impact, excellence, quality and efficiency of implementation by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 program, has developed a cloud management platform and a mobile application that connects with the patients' glucometers.

The system allows calculating the recommended dose of insulin from parameters such as food intake and physical activity, which allows the user to relax their diet and avoid complications in their health.

Within the framework of this alliance SocialDiabetes, will have the support of Vodafone as a technological partner and allows the healthcare professional to have real-time patient information, and remotely modify the recommended insulin treatment. These changes are automatically updated in users’ mobile devices, thus achieving greater control of the day to day of the disease.

The platform also enables the realization of videoconferences and messaging between professionals and patients, optimizing the healthcare process in time and costs, and complementing it with the automatic generation of alerts, reminders, reports and graphics.

The agreement with SocialDiabetes is part of Vodafone's strategy to promote Connected Health that, thanks to the data collected by smart devices through the Internet of Things (IoT), will make it possible to personalize treatments, prevent diseases, predict health risks and empowering patients.

Currently, one in every eleven adults suffers from diabetes worldwide and a direct cost of the disease is estimated at over 600 billion dollars per year, which represents 12% of global health expenditure.

Initiatives such as the one presented today by SocialDiabetes and Vodafone will considerably reduce the healthcare costs associated with diabetes and, above all, will improve the quality of life of the people who suffer from it.
