Nick Read joined Vodafone Group in 2001, holding local, regional, and global senior executive roles until his appointment as CEO in 2018. Prior to joining Vodafone, he held senior global finance positions with United Business Media Plc and Federal Express Worldwide.

As a world leader in the Internet of Things (IoT) connecting devices and platforms to the internet, the company’s innovation in IoT aligns with the aspirations of society for cleaner and safer cities, better transport and improving agriculture. Vodafone’s digital leadership is changing also how governments deliver healthcare and education and how businesses, particularly Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), serve customers.

Vodafone revolutionised fintech in Africa through M-Pesa which celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2022 and is the region’s largest fintech platform providing access to financial services for millions of people in a secure, affordable, and convenient way.

Vodafone’s purpose is to connect for a better future enabling an inclusive and sustainable digital society. Since July 2021 Vodafone’s European network has been powered by 100% renewable electricity. Vodafone proactively works to expand access to connectivity for rural communities, students, and jobseekers. In addition, Vodafone’s Foundation supports communities in Europe and Africa in the areas of health, education, and equality.

Nick serves as a champion for HeforShe, a UN solidarity movement for gender equality. Under his leadership, Vodafone expanded its commitment to diversity and inclusion through parental leave, tackling domestic violence and abuse in society, introducing a new global commitment on menopause, and setting clear diversity targets for senior leaders.

He is a Commissioner of the UN Broadband Commission and in this role, in 2021, Vodafone partnered with the Commission in a global initiative to improve the lives of millions by pledging to make the internet accessible to all by 2030 through smartphone access. 

Nick is also a Non-Executive Director with Booking Holdings Inc.
