Welcome to Lesotho – otherwise known as the Kingdom of the Sky – the only independent state in the world lying entirely above 1,000 metres in elevation. Its highest point – the peak of Thabana Ntlenyana mountain – reaches an elevation of more than 3,400 metres. Lesotho is a landlocked country, completely encircled by South Africa, separated by mountainous regions.

We have operated in Lesotho since 1996, providing digital communications and financial services to customers across the country. Our focus in Lesotho is to improve lives and create a more inclusive society through technology. To help achieve that goal, we have invested significantly in the roll-out of 4G connectivity and M-PESA, transforming customers’ mobile devices into digital wallets without the need for a bank account or modern handset.

The World Bank classifies Lesotho as a lower-middle-income country. While its economic performance in recent years has remained relatively slow, the agriculture sector grew in 2021.

Around 43% of Lesotho’s population are using the internet, according to the World Bank.
