2009/10: Patrick NyAboga Ng’ate working with Kenya Red Cross
Patrick NyAboga Ng’ate, 33, has over 10 years experience in ICT and over 2 years in Product Development. Working with Kenya Red Cross for three months, he developed a framework for an ICT strategy to enable them to effectively network their 58 offices countrywide. He also helped develop a framework for a call centre to provide a Rapid Response hot line.
2009/10: Mercy Kanyoi Ndegwa working with Kenya Red Cross
With over 5 years experience in Project Management and Financial Systems, Mercy Kanyoi Ndegwa, 32, worked with Kenya Red Cross for three months focusing on system improvement and quality assurance. She helped develop and document processes for the automation and integration of finance, HR, supply chain and messaging systems. She also worked on assessing and documenting existing procedures, mapping them to the automated systems incorporating best practice.
2009/10: Nelly Wairimu Githaka working with Kenya Red Cross
5 years experience in social marketing made Nelly Wairimu Githaka, 33, the ideal candidate to develop and implement a marketing strategy for Kenya Red Cross, including merchandised products for income generation. Over 3 months Nelly also considered year round team management and the coordination of activities to ensure the end result.
2009/10: Kio Kinuthia working with Kenya Red Cross
Kio Kinuthia, 38, has over 10 years experience in sales and marketing. His 3-month stay with the Kenya Red Cross focused on implementing a strategy to improve sales and revenue from the charity’s products: first aid boxes, training and disaster preparation and management. Kio helped design and implemented sustainable strategies for selling KRCS branded merchandise and increasing sales at the charity’s Hotel.
2009/10: Denis Mutinda Makau working with Moving The Goalposts
The Moving The Goalposts project uses football to develop essential life skills – confidence, leadership, self esteem – of vulnerable young women. Its sport and development programme now has close to three thousand girl football players. Teacher Denis Mutinda Makau, 28, used his skills to impart basic computer skills and also set-up a computer training room.
Dennis’ input means all staff of MTG now have a basic understanding of and ability to use the computers. He has also helped MTG to acquire additional computers and to set up a computer lab and mini cyber-café.
2009/10: Raymond Jumahworking working with Moving The Goalposts
Raymond Jumah, 26, is developing and implementing a marketing strategy for the low cost sanitary pads project being run by Moving The Goalposts. He is also creating a countrywide awareness of the Organisation and its work through a newsletter. Raymond is also helping to strengthen the group’s corporate partnerships.
2009/10: Andrew Kamunya Karuri working with Moving The Goalposts
Andrew Kamunya Karuri, 28, is helping the Moving The Goalposts project increase their ability to target youths effectively. He is honing their report writing skills, record keeping, peer education and counselling, team management and motivation. Andrew is also working to increase awareness through a national strategy, and working with key target groups to set up income generation projects.
2009/10: Josephine Kamanthe working with Moving The Goalposts
A trained computer scientist and college teacher, Josephine Kamanthe, 26, is using her knowledge to educate both the staff and the girls at Moving the Goalposts. By identifying new partners she is increasing resource mobilisation. She is also reviewing and improving the organisation’s computer network, and updating the website. Josephine plans to organise one major awareness creation and resource mobilisation event.
2009/10: Tony Wafula Kisaka working with Northern Rangelands Trust
Northern Rangelands Trust facilitates community-led conservation projects in northern Kenya. With experience in systems assurance, particularly in relation to ISO processes, Tony Wafula Kisaka, 33, is reviewing and improving the organisation’s internal administrative and human resource systems. He will also develop new systems to streamline procedures.
2009/10: Adam Nyaga working with Northern Rangelands Trust
Adam Nyaga works in IT systems and analysis. With Northern Rangelands Trust Adam is helping with business planning, reviewing and improving the financial management systems and procedures and issues surrounding statutory compliance.
2009/10: Susan Mueni working with Northern Rangelands Trust
Susan Mueni, 33, is working with Northern Rangelands Trust to strengthen the community conservancy systems. Susan is building capacity in finance, HR and administration based on the systems set up by the team members. By identifying the training needs within the organisation, Susan is planning and organising training logistics, workshops and also developing a training calendar.
2009/10: Chris Otieno Oduor working with Northern Rangelands Trust
35-year-old Chris Otieno Oduor is helping the Northern Rangelands Trust coordinate the implementation of newly developed systems across the organisation. He is analysing the effectiveness of staff training and making recommendations for future provision. Chris is also assisting NRT to strengthen its partnerships.
