Answering your questions

Frequently Asked Questions - General FAQs

Our frequently asked questions are divided into three areas. They are: general questions, those written for charities and those written to help applicants. If you can’t find the answers to your questions here please email us at: worldofdifference@vodafone.com.

1. What is World of Difference?
World of Difference is a programme established by The Vodafone Foundation to give people a chance to really make a difference. It gives you the opportunity to devote a whole year of your time to work for your dream charity and get up to £25,000 towards your outgoings plus £20,000 in expenses. This year eight people will be selected to participate in the programme.

2. What are the benefits of World of Difference?
This one is easy. Your chosen charity benefits from your skills and experience and gets you for one year at no cost to themselves. In return, you get to work for your dream charity at no cost to yourself. Not only will you get an experience you’ll remember forever, but it will look great on your CV too.

3. What are the key dates for this year?
We’re accepting applications from 18 June until 30 July 2009. Over the summer the entries will be judged. Shortlisted charities and applicants will be interviewed over the telephone by 31 August. The final 16 applicants will be invited to meet with a judging panel, comprised of both members of the Foundation and external charity partners, on 10 September. From this meeting, we’ll select four winners who will be notified by 14 September. From the remaining 8 finalists, 4 successful applicants will be chosen by members of the public who have viewed video profiles on Facebook. These winners will be notified by phone by 24 September 2009. All candidates should aim to start their World of Difference year by the end of October 2009.
