Vodafone announces today that employees with matched funding by the Vodafone UK Foundation raised nearly £80,000 for charities and local organisations. During 2005:
- Banbury-based employees fundraised for over 72 local projects
- Over £44,000 was raised by employees fundraising for charities and local community organizations
- A further £35,174.99 in matched funding was given by The Vodafone UK Foundation
Initiatives include dress-down days held in aid of Katharine House Hospice and a number of other fundraising activities for local-based organizations including Horton Hospital, Warwickshire Air Ambulance and the Orchard Field Nursery.
Fundraising by employees is matched by The Vodafone UK Foundation as part of Vodafone UK’s employee ‘Getting Involved’ programme. The in-house programme, launched in December 2002, not only offers financial support for staff fundraising; it also actively promotes payroll giving and provides volunteering opportunities so employees can take paid time off to offer their skills to their favourite cause.
'It is very important to us to contribute to the Banbury community,' added Sarah Shillito, Senior Manager for The Vodafone UK Foundation. 'But, more importantly, we’re also very proud of our employees and their level of commitment to the area.'
Early this month, The Vodafone UK Foundation with The United Learning Trust (ULT) announced their plans to bring a new Academy to Banbury. An independent public consultation will now take place to seek the views of local parents, residents, primary head teachers and other interested parties on the proposal.
