Vodafone and MySpace create a Web 2.0 music platform

30 June 2008

  • "Vodafone Music Reporter" is available in MySpace and will be launched in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and Italy. Exploiting all the advantages of Web 2.0, users can share music-related experiences and contents and the main music festivals that Vodafone will sponsor this summer.
  • Vodafone will also introduce a competition so that interested parties can display their skills as reporters at these festivals and win a day as part of the MTV team on a programme to be broadcast on the Internet and on mobiles.

Madrid, 30th June 2008.- Vodafone and MySpace announced today the launch of “Vodafone Music Reporter”, an interactive online platform through which the largest mobile telephone operator in the world wants to continue its commitment to music and offer a unique and attractive experience to its customers. The site will be available in MySpace, continuing therefore the successful collaboration that both companies started in 2007 with the launch of MySpace in Vodafone's Mobile Internet platform.

Vodafone will use the platform for sharing with users all musical initiatives it is involved in, such as the sponsorships of the most important music festivals in Europe this summer (Sonar or FIB in Spain, Vodafone Unlimited Cologne in Germany or Vodafone TBAs in the UK). “Vodafone Music Reporter” will also include content generated by users, thereby creating communities of people with similar musical interests. The first phase of the launch is planned in Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom, followed shortly afterwards by Italy.

The address for entering “Vodafone Music Reporter” is www.myspace.com/vodafonemusicreporter_es. On this website users can share their experiences and upload and download photos, videos and any material related to music events in which Vodafone is involved. In addition, all users in this community can communicate with each other and relate their experiences of this summer’s festivals in a blog.

For all those interested in displaying their skills as presenters, Vodafone will introduce a competition where they can demonstrate their journalistic abilities, acting as reporters at any of these summer music festivals and competing to become the star of a real programme on the prestigious MTV channel to be broadcast online and on mobiles.

To participate in this competition, all aspirants will have to form part of the “Vodafone Music Reporter” community and upload a photo and video displaying their skills. It will then be the users themselves who vote and decide what they most like, with the site showing the competition’s progression until the final winner is chosen. The winner will be awarded a day with the MTV team on one of the programmes it is making this summer, and will be able to show their recording on the programme MTV is making on the Internet and mobile Internet.

"We have been listening to our customers for years and know that they want music-related contents and applications. And we have seen how agreements towards this end improve their experience as users”, commented David Wheldon, Marketing Director for the Vodafone Group. “Vodafone Music Reporter is a new way of being close to our customers, making the most of all the advantages that social networks offer. Through this new website, users will be able to form a community where they can share their interest in music and demonstrate their best skills”.

Nick Reid, Head of Sales at MySpace in the United Kingdom, added, “Vodafone has known how to use all the creative possibilities offered by MySpace with this platform and is a perfect example of the possibilities we want to offer our advertisers in MySpace”.
