Madrid, 18th February 2008.- The Vodafone Foundation Spain has unveiled its "Build a new world" project, a new programme that gives two candidates the chance to work on a social project in a Non-Profit Entity (NPE) in Spain.

The call for candidates, open from today and until 20th March 2008, is aimed at anyone who has an idea to develop a socially responsible project in collaboration with an NPE legally registered as such in Spain. Candidates must apply via the Vodafone Foundation Spain website, which is: www.fundacionvodafone.es. Six projects will be short-listed, and a panel of independent judges will select the two winners, who will be announced during the first half of April.

The "Build a new world" programme has come to Spain after the success achieved by the Vodafone Foundations in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the Netherlands, where for the last four years, dozens of people are seeing their dream come true by taking part in a socially responsible project.

The Foundation has contributed to boost the innovation and use of new mobile communication technologies to facilitate the social integration of vulnerable population groups. The institution's key goal also extends to the dissemination of telecommunications in society through publications, training, courses and seminars.

Over the last year, more than 10,000 people attended 60 scheduled courses and seminars, and more than 15,000 elderly people were taught how to master new technologies. The Estalmat Project, geared towards the detection and stimulation of early mathematical talent, was extended to 7 Autonomous Regions.

The Foundation is also involved in Spanish and European technological innovation projects that make life easier for dependent people, the elderly and chronic patients. Star projects include Mobile Telecare in collaboration with Red Cross or Telemedicine with the Carlos III Health Institute

A wide array of activities have been co-arranged with different associations and institutions that represent vulnerable population groups, in order to support the full integration of dependent people; some of the more outstanding initiatives are certain adapted sports (skiing, scuba diving, sailing, golf and adapted gliding, to name but a few) and the summer camps for physically disadvantaged children.
