Spanish Red Cross organizes the third edition of the seminar on carers of dependent people

From 16th-17th April, with the collaboration of the Vodafone Foundation Spain

  • During the seminar, specialists from Red Cross, public administrations and non-profit organizations will debate the situation of carers and their social support and recognition.
  • The Chairman of Spanish Red Cross, Juan Manuel Suárez del Toro Rivero and the Chairman of the Vodafone Foundation Spain, José Luis Ripoll, will be attending the opening ceremony.

Madrid, 15th April 2008.- Spanish Red Cross, in collaboration with the Vodafone Foundation Spain, is organizing the third edition of its National Seminar on Carers of Dependent People. On 16th and 17th April in Granada, members of the Red Cross' Community Outreach projects, institutions that provide senior citizens' services, Public Administrations, NGOs, Universities and other organizations will debate the situation of dependent people's carers, as well as their training and social recognition and support needs.

Among those present at the opening ceremony will be the national chairman of Spanish Red Cross, Juan Manuel Suárez del Toro Rivero, the Chairman of the Vodafone Foundation Spain, José Luis Ripoll, the regional chairman of Spanish Red Cross in Andalusia, José Mario Albacete and the regional chairman of Spanish Red Cross in Granada, Francisco Escribano.

The seminar's programme includes round tables, workshops and forums for debating and discussing different subjects such as the quality of the services, ethical issues, community outreach models based on the group's involvement and strengthening the support for carers.

One of the key goals of the Vodafone Foundation Spain is the research, innovation and dissemination of Information and Communications Technologies to improve the well-being, independent living and health of all groups of people, in particular the most vulnerable. The Foundation and Red Cross collaborate actively with blood donor campaigns, putting new technologies within the reach of vulnerable population groups or training and awareness-raising workshops.

In 2007, the Red Cross attended to more than 343,000 people through its programmes for the elderly, disabled and their carers.
