Vodafone Romania Foundation has granted over $1 million this year for projects to the benefit of children

Vodafone Romania Foundation granted over $ million in 2007 to support projects for underprivileged children, the sum having been announced at the beginning of the year.

The programs sustained this year, for the benefit of children, have addressed medical healthcare for children, including medical equipment endowing, for which the company allocated $630,000, prevention of school and family abandonment, educational programs for children with special needs (HIV, autism, handicap).

"Early this year, Vodafone Romania Foundation promised it would grant over $1 million to support projects for the benefit of children. We are pleased to announce that this commitment has been honored. Our initiatives focused on a new domain as well, in 2007 - health, which we believe needs constant and significant sustain. This year, we have allocated $630,000 to support medical healthcare programs for children, especially by endowing the pediatric departments with medical equipment, including units in disadvantaged regions and isolated communities," said Elena Serban, Director of Vodafone Romania Foundation.

Social responsibility programs supported by the Vodafone Romania Foundation in 2007 have exceeded $2.5 million in value. Most of these projects were aimed at supporting children and elders.

Among the most recent programs selected by the Board of Trustees of the Vodafone Romania Foundation we can mention:

  • state of the art medical equipment endowing - cardiotocographs, vital function monitors, CAT scan machines, advanced incubators - of 8 hospitals in Caransebes, Suceava, Onesti, Slatina, Comanesti, Targoviste and Galati. This project is sustained in collaboration with the Romanian Angel Appeal Foundation, the total sum allocated amounting to $100,000.
  • the acquisition of a pediatric videoduodenoscop device for the "Sfanta Maria" Children's Emergency Hospital in Iasi. The device cost $80,000.
  • the acquisition of modern medical equipment for the Sadova Social Medical Center in Dolj county, which is worth $60,000. This project was supported through the Edelweiss Foundation.
  • the nationwide medical equipment acquisitions for the early and complete diagnostic of HIV/HCV infections in children aged between 0 and 18 months, who are being committed in foster homes or with foster families, a project unfolding nationwide in collaboration with the De-Stigma Foundation. This project received $60,000 funding.
  • the acquisition of neurosurgery equipment and cancer surgery - ultrasound harmonic scalpels (UHS) - for the 'Marie Curie' Hospital in Bucharest. $60,000 was directed to this project.
