Now you can get a year of free broadband

12 August 2007

From today, New Zealanders who switch their home phone and toll calling to Vodafone will get a year of free broadband.

Customers who move their existing home phone number to Vodafone and sign up for the Talk2 national tolls plan will get Vodafone's broadband 1 plan free for 12 months. Broadband 1 gives customers the maximum download speed and a 1GB of data each month. That's enough to download around 6,000 photos, more than 300 songs or 200,000 text-based emails.

Vodafone executive Mark Rushworth says this new offer not only delivers on the government's objective of making broadband affordable for all Kiwis but will also give the competition a jolt.

"Customers are demanding cheaper broadband and free is as about as cheap as you can get. This is pretty exciting stuff for us and for our customers - it also sends a clear message to our competitors that we're serious about offering full telco services to all New Zealanders."

Rushworth says this is only the beginning of the new fixed-line revolution from Vodafone.

"Our goal is to shake up the telecommunications market in this country. It's an exciting time to be in this industry and we want to share our excitement with all of New Zealand".

Anyone who wants a bigger data allowance can upgrade their plan and get the equivalent discount.

Customers need to sign a 12 month contract, pay $41 a month for their home phone rental, $20 a month for Talk2 and will receive broadband 1 absolutely free. Customers can even keep their existing home phone number, so now customers can try broadband for free and have a choice of having their home phone with their favourite mobile provider.
