08 February 2008

Internet on the mobile phone 50 to 85% cheaper in 42 Passport countries

8 February 2008 –Vodafone Netherlands has significantly dropped its consumer data roaming tariffs for internet on the mobile phone. Vodafone customers – who have activated Vodafone Passport for free – pay 85% less than the standard tariff in all 42 Passport countries. The new tariffs now apply to all networks within those countries. Vodafone charges 5 eurocent per 20 kb (EUR 2.50/MB) plus a start-up fee of 79 eurocent per session. With this price plan Vodafone sets an unrivaled standard that will also strongly stimulate the uptake of mobile internet abroad.

Guy Laurence, CEO of Vodafone Netherlands: "Advanced mobile phones, good network coverage and more websites being suitable for mobile handsets stimulate the use of mobile internet enormously. With the introduction of flat fee subscriptions for domestic surfing, cost concerns have diminished. Internet on the mobile now starts to become a commodity. We want our customers to enjoy that same carefree feeling during a skiing trip, spring holiday or any other visit abroad. By including data usage in Vodafone Passport, 1.5 million existing Vodafone Passport customers automatically benefit from these advantages in 42 countries."

Vodafone Passport is a free service, which customers need to activate only once. They can do so via the Vodafone website, by sending a free SMS or making a phone call to customer services. Customers who have activated Vodafone Passport, already benefit from significantly lower voice tariffs since 2005, now in 42 countries. Now these benefits also apply when these customers want to use their phone to browse the internet or send email when abroad. For more information, please visit vodafone.nl/passport.
