Survey shows 4 out of 5 people are preoccupied whilst calling with their mobile

20 February 2008 - Yesterday, Vodafone Netherlands published the results of a survey by Motivaction into 'calling with attention' amongst Dutch people. The survey amongst 517 people was ordered by Vodafone to check an insight that people, when calling mobile, do a number of other things instead of paying attention to the phone call. Therefore Vodafone introduces "Vodafone Onder Ons" enabling people to really take their time and pay attention to their loved ones on the phone. For EUR 10 a month one person can form a group with 3 others and each group member can call each other for free, as long as they want.

For Vodafone, the results of the survey show that there is a positive market opportunity for a new product called 'Vodafone Onder Ons'. In stead of combining a phone call with numerous other things like shopping, cycling or eating and watching television, a Vodafone customer can now really take his time, sit down and give his full attention to his loved ones on the phone.

Interesting highlights are:

  • 93% prefers to make phone calls to their loved ones (partner, family, friends)
  • 78% confesses to do other things simultaneously
  • 64% doesn’t listen carefully during a phone call
  • 61% has the feeling that the person on the other side is doing other things simultaneously
  • 45% thinks that ‘sitting down’ helps to give full attention to the call

The flat fee of EUR 10 a month (paid by the group owner) makes it easier for customers to actually sit down and take their time to make that phone call to their loved ones. Vodafone’s campaign for 'Vodafone Onder Ons' is creatively visualized by a couch and cushions.
