Vodafone Netherlands starts national awareness campaign to enter 'ICE' in mobile phonebook
Maastricht, 13 July 2007 – Vodafone Netherlands starts, as of today, a national awareness campaign to encourage customers to enter 'ICE' contacts into their mobile phone. 'ICE', In Case of Emergency, has become an internationally recognized code in mobile phonebooks. By entering ICE, users can log the name and number of the person who should be contacted in case of an emergency. European Union Parliament member Maria Martens supports this campaign.
Emergency services like the fire departments, first aid staff and police services can call an ICE contact when necessary, knowing they will be talking to the right person in case of an emergency. Entering ICE numbers in the mobile phone increases the efficiency level of the first aid services and can save precious time and lives, even abroad.
Maria Martens, member of the European Parliament for the Netherlands: "I strongly support this initiative of Vodafone. Programming the international code ICE can save lives. Recently I have asked the European Commission to promote this. It is great that Vodafone takes the lead in this in the Netherlands."
International
In the countries surrounding us, the ICE numbers are already well known. Vodafone Netherlands considers the promotion of ICE as a part of its corporate responsibility and promotes public support to make everyone aware of the importance of ICE contacts. The international character of ICE enlarges its effectivity, and for this reason Vodafone Netherlands calls upon other mobile providers to act on this initiative.
Awareness campaign
Vodafone customers will be informed on ICE in different ways. The Vodafone website informs on the importance of ICE contacts and the best way to enter ICE into the phonebook. On the invoice each customer will be advised to enter ICE contacts. Vodafone’s customer service can also provide further information.
