Kerry Top Vodafone GAA All Star Football Nominations

26 September 2007

Twelve counties are represented in the list of 45 nominees for the Vodafone GAA All Star Football awards for 2007 which are announced today. The final selection will be announced live on television at the annual All Stars banquet at the City West Hotel in Dublin on October 19th.

All-Ireland champions Kerry top the list with ten nominations which include the three O’Se brothers Marc, Tomas and Darragh. Two others sets of brothers, Damien and Tommy Freeman of Monaghan and Alan and Bernard Brogan of Dublin, are also nominated.

Monaghan’s progress to the Ulster final and their impressive All-Ireland quarter-final display against Kerry earns them a total of four nominations, their highest representation since the mid 1980s. Louth will also be pleased with the nomination of their midfielder Paddy Keenan.

Nine of last year’s Vodafone All Stars – Stephen Cluxton (Dublin), Marc O’Se (Kerry), Karl Lacey (Donegal), Aidan O’Mahony (Kerry), Darragh O’Se (Kerry), Nicholas Murphy (Cork), Paul Galvin (Kerry), Alan Brogan (Dublin) and Kieran Donaghy (Kerry) – are in contention for awards this year.

The county breakdown is: Kerry (10), Dublin (7), Cork (6), Meath (6), Monaghan (4), Tyrone (3), Derry (3), Sligo (2), Galway (1), Donegal (1), Louth (1), Kildare (1).
