Hanover, 14 March 2007. Anyone who wants to find out more about the simple and high-speed mobile transmission of large data volumes should call in at Vodafone's CeBIT pavilion, because that's where the innovation leader will be demonstrating the fastest mobile data connection in a commercial German wireless network, which delivers speeds of up to 7.2 MBits/s. It is clear confirmation that Vodafone is, once again, a first mover in the mobile broadband services market. The Vodafone pavilion G04 in the open-air zone to the south of CeBIT's hall 25 in Hanover will also be demonstrating an uplink with transmission rates of up to 1.45 MBits/s. That's faster than any classic DSL rate. It's possible thanks to High Speed Uplink Packet Access Technology (HSUPA).
This technology offers genuine benefits to customers who rely on fast internet or intranet connections to the office. Auditors or sales representatives on assignments at their customer's premises, photographers who have to send in their photos from mobile terminals or radio journalists who need to deliver their copy as fast as possible to their radio stations can all profit from Vodafone's data services.
"Vodafone is the uncontested number one in the mobile broadband services market. We have the most efficient mobile network with the highest level of coverage in Germany," said Hartmut Kremling, CTO of Vodafone Germany. "And we're still extending it so that our customers get even more benefits."
Vodafone customers at CeBIT with notebooks and the appropriate data card can test out data transmission at rates of up to 7.2 MBits/s. Hanover is the launching pad for next level 3G broadband. By introducing fast data uploads, Vodafone is considerably extending the existing range of mobile data transmission applications. Transmission rates of up to 1.45 MBits/s make it possible to send photos and large files from any location or from the office at much faster rates than are possible with conventional DSL broadband connections. The Düsseldorf-based company is setting new mobile data transmission standards. Vodafone's CeBIT network partners for both high-speed services are Ericsson and Siemens.
Vodafone already has the most extensive 3G network in Germany. Its customers in over 2,000 towns and cities throughout the country already have 3G and 3G broadband with data transmission rates of up to 1.8 MBits/s. This means that Vodafone's services can be used by around 80 percent of the German population. Faster transmission rates of up to 3.6 MBits/s are already available in all major cities and, in summer 2007, they'll be available throughout the 3G network. Vodafone is supplementing its mobile data transmission services in rural regions with EDGE technology. This gives customers access to a transmission rate of 236.8 KBit/s.
