Vodafone paves the way for mobile internet at CeBIT with an array of new products and services

03 March 2008

Hanover, 3 March 2008. Vodafone customers can look forward to even simpler, more convenient and secure mobile phone-based internet usage in future. It will be introducing a range of new solutions and functions that will all be showcased at this year's CeBIT fair in Hanover. A new mobile phone browser makes web-sites just as easy to view on the phone display as they are on the home PC. Vodafone will also be demonstrating how a novel mobile phone portal can be adapted to the user's individual requirements. Further services such as mobile phone navigation functions and simple participation in online communities pro-vide a great many attractive applications. Security for mobile internet surfers is another concern that Vodafone has addressed.

mobi +
mobi + is a brand new mobile phone portal that Vodafone will be presenting for the first time at CeBIT. The portal can be individually adapted to the personal preferences of every single user. For example, customers can put their favourite websites on the mobi + entry page to see their top content at a glance. Freely configurable widgets and RSS feeds can also be easily integrated.

mobi + is extremely simple to use. The entry page can be conveniently configured on the home PC with internet browser, and it is transferred in real-time to the mobile phone with the very latest Web2.0 technology. Changes to personal settings and content se-lections can also be made directly on the mobile phone.

It only takes a few clicks for the customer to reach his or her own personal mix of news, music, communities, tools and other content. Always up to date, always to hand and completely flexible.

Vodafone live! Client
One of the innovations on show at CeBIT 2008 is the Vodafone live!-Client. It's an application that is integrated in the mobile phone, providing direct access to mobile internet. The attractive content on the Vodafone live! portal can be accessed directly at the touch of a button. No permanent online connection is necessary because the relevant content is automatically updated. The on-device portal will be marketed in conjunction with the Vodafone live! flatrate, which means there are no additional costs for users. The first mobile phones to support this service - SonyEricsson's W910, V640i, K850i and W890i models - will be presented at CeBIT.

Vodafone Security
Vodafone offers its customers a very attractive anti-virus program for smart-phones so that mobile phone surfers can feel safe and secure. The software is currently available on a free 3-month trial basis. When the trial period ends, there are plans to make it available at a low monthly subscription rate. Voda-fone Security provides comprehensive protection for Symbian and Windows mobile phones such as Nokia N73, N95, N95 8GB, N70 and E65 and to the Palm Otto 500 and Treo 750v. A firewall automatically screens incoming and outgoing network traffic. The program is also automatically updated whenever new viruses appear on the internet.

Vodafone Navigator
Mobile phones are fast becoming versatile universal devices thanks to the latest new functions. These days, mobile phones are used just as regularly for data services as they are for voice calls. Vodafone Navigator is a service that en-ables the use of certain mobile phones as navigation devices without the need for any additional hardware. Vodafone Navigator is an off-board navigation system. The regularly updated maps that it uses are stored on a central server. The range of mobile devices which support the Vodafone Navigator without extra hardware will be extended for CeBIT. This means that the Vodafone Navi-gator will be additionally available for the Samsung i550v and the Nokia N95 8GB, and they will be joined by further models in the future.

My Communities Client
Another innovative product being showcased in Hanover is My Communities Client for Vodafone mobile phones. It is a new software enabling direct access plus photo and video uploads in some of the most popular online communities. The communities which will be initially supported are mylive! Video, Facebook, youtube and myspace, with further communities to follow. The first mobile phones that support the client are the SonyEricsson W910i and the Nokia N95 8GB, and they will be joined by additional models in the future.
