Hanover, 3 March 2008. The Vodafone Navigator is a mobile navigation system for mobile phones and smartphones that is continually updated with the latest online traffic infor-mation. At CeBIT, Vodafone will be introducing new Navi-Flatrate tariffs for the Vodafone Navigator. The EUR 5 a month flatrate enables the user to use the navigation service in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Western Europe flatrate costs EUR 9.95 a month. Another new feature is that the Happy Live tariff option includes all data transmissions to the navigation server in the Vodafone and partner networks. The new flatrates are due to be launched at the end of March.
The Vodafone Navigator for mobile phones is a substitute for classic in-vehicle navigation devices. The advantage is that the Navigator can be used in any vehicle, even a rented one, and it can be used by pedestrians instead of a map because you can switch between vehicle and pedestrian mode. The Vodafone Navigator is an off-board navigation solution which uses regularly updated maps and traffic information that is stored on a central server.
The departure and destination addresses can be selected from the mobile phone's address book. An additional local address book stores frequently visited addresses. Thanks to an intuitive, error tolerant search for places, streets, post codes and local attractions, target addresses are located in a matter of seconds. The route information is output as graphics, text and voice. The dynamic map display has a zoom and rotation function. Night mode simplifies the use of the Navigator in poor light. The Vodafone Navigator (made by Telmap) is currently available for the following mobile phone models and smartphones with built-in GPS receiver: BlackBerry® Pearl 8110 (new!), BlackBerry® Curve 8310, BlackBerry® 8800, VDA GPS (new!), VPA compact V, VPA compact GPS, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N95, Nokia E90, Samsung i550. Customers who have purchased one of these models can try out Vodafone Navigator for 14 days free of charge and without any obligation. They only pay the data transmission costs.
