Assuming joint responsibility - the first Vodafone and Arcor Corporate Responsibility Report

17 October 2008

Düsseldorf, 17. October 2008. In the process of becoming a fully integrated telecommunications service provider, Vodafone and Arcor have now published the first integrated Corporate Responsibility Report (CR Report) in an interim version for the 2007/2008 fiscal year. The 23-page report details concrete examples of Vodafone and Arcor's project commitments in the three areas of Corporate Responsibility, Corporate Citizenship and Vodafone Foundations. It particularly focuses on the employees' involvement in CR projects and issues such as work-life balance, social and environmental responsibility. This is the eighth report to be published since the fiscal year 2000/2001.

CR Report readers are initially provided with an overview of the strategy and structure behind Vodafone and Arcor's CR policy. Projects and initiatives in the three CR areas are then detailed. The CR activities for the benefit of employees include flexitime models, teleworking and childcare facilities to help Vodafone employees with young children to improve their work-life balance. Education is also provided to make staff aware of how significant diversity and equal opportunities are for the company's success, and they are involved in measures to promote loyalty and motivation.

In the area of social responsibility, Vodafone and Arcor are involved in projects to improve children's and parents' media competence. Current projects are the "Schau hin" media guide, which provides useful information about the child-oriented use of TV, computer and internet, and the "Ein Netz für Kinder" (one network for children) initiative for safe internet surfing. The "Mach mit - Vodafone hilft" (get involved - with Vodafone's help) initiative supports the charity activities of Vodafone and Arcor employees, who have been able to apply for project funding from Vodafone since August 2008. The Vodafone Germany Foundation's projects - which are mainly in the fields of social issues, education, art and culture - are explained here along with the activities of the Vodafone Foundation for Research.

The report details the various energy efficiency projects which have been implemented to achieve the climate protection aim of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent by the year 2020. Vodafone's environmental activities also include a recycling programme for used handsets, computer equipment and network technology waste.

"We aim to be the most respected company in the telecommunications sector and the CR Report underscores our commitment to achieving this aim," said Dr. Mark Speich, Head of Corporate Responsibility & Foundations.

Vodafone and Arcor will be publishing a two-yearly printed Corporate Responsibility Report in future to detail their corporate responsibility activities. A digital interim report in PDF format, like this year's report, will be published in the other years. The interim report is not designed for compliance with GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) requirements. It merely serves to highlight important developments.

The current Corporate Responsibility Interim Report 2007/2008 and all other reports are available at www.vodafone.de/unternehmen/verantwortung
as downloads. Further information about current CR activities is also provided in the "Responsibility" section.
