11 September 2007

Vodafone takes your business in the right direction with the new BlackBerry® Curve™ 8310 smartphone featuring 12 months free GPS mapping

Vodafone Australia today introduce the BlackBerry® Curve™ 8310 smartphone, which features built-in GPS technology. Today also marks the launch of Vodafone’s own GPS solution: Vodafone Compass™.

Vodafone is the first and currently, exclusive supplier of the new BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone in Australia, further bolstering the range and choice of business solutions available to Vodafone customers. The new Smartphone is the ideal device for mobile professionals and personal users who want advanced GPS navigation, with a full-featured smartphone with advanced email and messaging features, media player and built-in camera.

Vodafone customers on the move will benefit greatly from the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone’s built-in GPS receiver, which works in conjunction with Vodafone Compass and is simple and easy to download through the Vodafone application portal for the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone. Based on Yapp Mobile technology, Vodafone Compass offers a complete navigation experience from the car to footpath.

The Vodafone Compass ‘location finder’ stores favourite locations and routes. The perfect travel companion, Vodafone Compass also offers an easy-to-use ‘find and seek’ directory, allowing customers to enter non-specific locations or services, whether it be ‘pizza’, ‘coffee’ or a specific venue or tourist attraction. Vodafone Compass will then identify a customer’s location and provide a number of nearby options.

For customers wanting to make the most of mobile entertainment while on the move, the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone features an advanced media player, as well as Bluetooth® 2.0 with support for stereo headsets, car sound systems and home stereo players that support the Bluetooth stereo audio profile (A2DP/AVRCP). Its nextgeneration media player and the new Roxio® Media Manager included in the BlackBerry® Desktop Software makes managing music and video files a breeze, and new desktop software enables full desktop management of all files. In order to take full advantage of these capabilities, the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone comes with a microSD card slot, for expandable file storage.

Edward Goff, General Manager Business Markets at Vodafone Australia comments: “Vodafone Compass offers the ultimate in flexibility and productivity, giving our customers the confidence to know they can tap into sophisticated local knowledge no matter where they are, saving them valuable time that would otherwise be lost fussing with street directories and restaurant guides. The BlackBerry Curve 8310 is the perfect smartphone for us to launch the pioneering Vodafone Compass service.”

Customers signing up to the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone can enjoy the benefit of free unlimited emails on our new combined $49 MyBusiness Cap and $30 Vodafone Mobile Email with BlackBerry plan and will also receive Vodafone Compass free for the first 12 months making this an unbeatable solution for businesses of all sizes (‘free’ Vodafone Compass offer ends December 1st ‘07).

Norm Lo, Vice President of Asia Pacific at RIM comments: “The BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone offers bestin-class Smartphone technology with its unique combination of advanced wireless communications and mobile entertainment features. We’re delighted to be working with Vodafone Australia to bring the BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone to their customers.”

For corporate customers, BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software tightly integrates with IBM Lotus® Domino®, Microsoft® Exchange and Novell® GroupWise® and works with existing enterprise systems to enable secure, push-based wireless access to email and other corporate data.

For individuals and smaller businesses, BlackBerry® Internet Service allows users to access up to ten corporate and personal email accounts (including most popular ISP email accounts) from a single device.

The BlackBerry Curve 8310 smartphone will be available at selected Vodafone stores and corporate sales channels from September. For further information please visit: http://store.vodafone.com.au.
