England's Andrew Flintoff has laid down a challenge to Canary Wharf workers to take part in a head-to-head vortex throwing challenge on Tuesday 2 September at Canada Square Park.
The giant all-rounder, who has taken the attack to the South Africans with bat and ball, is also renowned for being able to throw a cricket ball colossal distances. So ahead of the 5th Test at the Oval, England Team sponsors Vodafone has set a one-off challenge to see if anyone can topple him.
The event will begin at 11.30am and is hosted by Channel 4's Dermot Reeve, with tickets for the crucial final Test up for grabs and signed 'Freddie' merchandise as prizes for the winners, as well as a chance to meet 'Freddie' personally.
So what is a vortex? The England Cricket team use the vortex, which is similar to a mini American football with shark fins, in their pre-match warm-up. 'Freddie' is the team's undisputed champion and reckons there is no one who can beat him.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge on Tuesday as those city guys always seem to have plenty to say - it's time to put their money where their mouth is," joked Freddie.
"The event will hopefully drum up support ahead of the last Test which is a must-win for us after a disappointing performance at Headingley last week. We have a good record at the Oval, which is just over the river from Canary Wharf and a full house will really help to spur the players on."
On the day there will also be a chance to see and use some of the latest technology that Vodafone has to offer, with Impact Squads on hand to give demonstrations to the public of Vodafone Live! and the latest picture messaging services.
Maria Bellanca, Vodafone's Head of Group Sports Sponsorship, said: "We are delighted to take England's leading player into the heart of the city for this event. Andrew Flintoff has been inspirational this summer and to give Canary Wharf the chance to meet the all-rounder and take part in the challenge is something we are proud to do as Team sponsors."
