Vodafone Romania is pleased to announce the first children healthcare programs, which have been selected for funding in 2007.  In order to address the high needs of the community, Vodafone Romania announced, at the beginning of this year, that it will grant USD1 million to support various programs to the benefit of children.

Through the Vodafone Romania Foundation, the company will support various programs addressing children healthcare needs, as well as the prevention of school and family abandonment, and educational programs for children with special needs.

“The mission of the Vodafone Romania Foundation is to improve the living conditions of people in need, especially underprivileged children and elders, through programs supporting local communities.  Starting this year, we’ll also focus on a new domain – health, which, we believe, needs constant and significant support. Through the Vodafone Romania Foundation, we are committed to support various programs which aim to improve children healthcare, including medical equipment for pediatric departments, especially in the disadvantaged regions and isolated communities”, said  Liliana Solomon, CEO Vodafone Romania.

The funds directed to children healthcare programs, through Vodafone Romania Foundation, amount to USD 600,000, in 2007. Following a number of proposals, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation selected the first programs to be funded this year, for a total amount of USD 270,000:

  • Medical equipment endowing (incubator for newly-born children, UV lamp, echograph, special equipment for maintaining vital functions, etc.) of the four hospitals which provide healthcare services in the rural regions of Timis county: Sinnicolaul Mare Hospital, Karl Diel Jimbolia Hospital, Faget Hospital and Lugoj Hospital. With the support of the Vodafone Romania Foundation, these medical institutions will be able to provide prompt and high quality healthcare services, in their maternity and pediatric sections. The amount directed to this project is USD 170,000.
  • Medical equipment endowing (operation table, orthopedics engine, sterilizer, etc.) of the Pediatrics Hospital in Brasov. The funds directed to this project amount to USD 55,000.
  •  Incubators and advanced medical equipment endowing of the neonatology section of the “Filantropia” Hospital in Bucharest. This equipment will enable this medical institution to perform intensive treatment for premature children, with serious health problems, whose number has significantly increased during the last years. The funds directed to this project: USD 45,000.

For the rest of the funds directed to healthcare projects, up to USD 600,000, the Vodafone Romania Foundation initiates a second call for proposals and invites NGO’s or other institutions to send appropriate projects to Fundatia.Vodafone_ro@vodafone.com, by June 1st, 2007. The projects will be selected by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation according to the general evaluation criteria, as listed at http://www.vodafone.ro/fundatia-vodafone/finantare/reguli-de-finantare.html .
