London – The Vodafone Group Foundation today made a donation of £100,000 to the China Charity Federation towards the emergency relief fund that it has set up following the widespread death and destruction caused by the earthquake which hit China’s Sichuan province on 12th May.
The grant is made by The Vodafone Group Foundation from its Disaster Response Fund and follows indications that in excess of 12,000 people may have been killed and a further 60,000 injured by the earthquake.
The donation from the Vodafone Group Foundation will provide funds to support the most immediate need for food, water, medicines, tents, quilts and raincoats.
The China Charity Federation is a recognized nation wide charity organization that is working with China Central Television and Phoenix TV to arrange a charity programme tomorrow for the victims of the disaster.
“We have made this donation in the hope that it can assist the China Charity Federation in its efforts to help the people of Sichuan province in the aftermath of the earthquake”, said Dr Howard Xia, General Manager, Vodafone China Limited.
