In response to the devastating earthquake in eastern Turkey on Sunday, Vodafone Turkey have set up a free SMS text donation service to allow employees and customers to donate towards the rescue and relief efforts of the Turkish Red Crescent. In addition to these efforts, Vodafone Turkey employees gathered 110 boxes of first aid donations within the first 24 hours and a truck of water and blanket was supplied to the region.
Vodafone’s emergency telecommunication response program functioned efficiently from the beginning and Vodafone Turkey was able to assist with rescue and relief efforts and to establish humanitarian calling centres for those affected by the disaster.
Vodafone’s emergency telecommunication response partner Telecoms Sans Frontieres are now in the country cooperating with the Turkish government to assess the need for their assistance in the remote areas of the country.
