The Future of Privacy was explored at a luncheon last week we hosted for the Future Agenda, a Vodafone-sponsored programme designed to gather pragmatic expert opinion to address global challenges and create a platform for collective innovation. Bringing together a wide range of experts in such fields as privacy and policy, health, technology and consumer protection, this event in Washington, DC, explored changes in data collection, technology and human behaviours we might expect to see over the next ten years, and what policy actions might be needed between now and then to facilitate improvements and protect human rights in this new world. The group discussed such issues as the proliferation of online data and the decreasing cost of storage, empowerment of consumers by new social media, omnipresent processing power and always-on broadband connectivity, and how trusted intermediaries might evolve to help consumers protect and control their data. The results of that dialogue are available on the Future Agenda website for further collaboration and discussion.
