How Vodafone manages internal privacy compliance

24 February 2010

We'd like to tell you a little bit about how we manage privacy compliance across the Vodafone corporate family.

The Vodafone Group Privacy Policy provides a framework for ensuring we respect and protect customers’ personal information and their communications in all the areas in which we operate. We require this policy to be implemented by every Vodafone local operating company. It is overseen by our Group Privacy Team. We also operate an Internet Policy & Reputation Steering Group, a cross-functional body made up of senior management that provides strategic guidance and approval of new policies or standards relating to emerging privacy issues.

Each operating company must appoint a Privacy Officer with day-to-day responsibility for compliance. Local Privacy Officers participate in our international Privacy Officer Forum managed by the Group Privacy Team, focused on operational privacy management and best practice.

The Group Privacy Team also operate an international privacy expert group for our local legal and policy experts to share knowledge and best practice on developments in the law, technology or public and social policy.

In order to raise awareness among our employees worldwide about the importance of privacy, we operate a dedicated privacy site on our intranet designed to explain our approach and to discuss privacy from a legal, ethical and social perspective. Here we provide a range of resources on privacy, data protection and other topical issues, and how they affect Vodafone and our customers.
