Vodafone named as the “consistent global leader” in Internet of Things (IoT) Services in new Machina Research Benchmarking report
Vodafone recognised for global scale, depth of specialist expertise and strategic focus on IoT
Vodafone has been named as “the consistent global leader” in IoT services by industry analyst firm Machina Research.
In the 2016 Machina Research IoT Communications Service Provider Benchmarking report, Vodafone’s global scale, depth of specialist expertise and the strategic focus placed on IoT within the company were highlighted. It also said that Vodafone is the largest global IoT player and the fastest growing business in the market, with Machine-to-Machine (M2M) connections increasing 38% in the past year.
Machina Research chief executive officer Matt Hatton, said: “Vodafone has been the consistent global leader in Communications Service Provider (CSP) IoT services for the past several years. It has made bold investments in key IoT vertical segments as well as in technology and capabilities and has built the largest team of IoT specialists. When this team is coupled with its unmatched global footprint, it becomes clear why Vodafone would consistently be on the short-list of multi-national corporations seeking seamless global IoT services.”
Businesses around the world are rapidly exploring the opportunities of IoT technology to improve operational efficiency, increase revenue through new business models, improve customer service, comply with legislation and make their businesses more sustainable by reducing carbon and energy use.
Vodafone IoT director Ivo Rook commented: “This report recognises the leadership position we have established in IoT. Our team will continue to set the pace in this fast growing industry, successfully completing the world’s first trial of standardised NB-IoT on a live commercial network is the latest example of our commitment to continue to invest in expanding our platform and IoT services.”
Hatton added: “Innovations around its platform have been especially helpful to Vodafone in building its connected car business. The flexibility it provides is critical to accelerating the development of connected cars.”
Along with automotive, Machina highlights healthcare, energy and utilities as sectors in which Vodafone is seeing robust growth in its IoT services. The company is also winning customers in insurance and manufacturing.
